In this episode, I open up about my personal story about seeking support to further manage my ADHD through Trauma Therapy. I knew that this method of therapy was going to be effective and I have always been a huge advocate of therapy but what I didn’t expect was the rapid results that I experienced.
“In total, some 20–50% of children with a history of Childhood Trauma have clinical levels of ADHD (Glod and Teicher 1996; McLeer et al.1994).”
Receiving support for mental health is a journey, from long waits to getting the right doctor to finding the right treatment and medication that will work and also the energy that it takes to keep at it. But once we do get the right support, magic can happen. I am beyond grateful to have found the right support team to move through this stage of my life. If you relate to this post and also to this episode, please don’t give up on your healing journey, keep going! I am cheering for your success.

The questions you’ll here answered in this episode: (The following questions asked in the episode have been paraphrased below.) I can’t be medicated, even for ADHD. I will have exciting things I’m involved in, then I have an episode that makes me feel rejected and I fall into a rumination dive and it takes me a while to get back up. I’m trying to find a way to catch myself sooner, get out of it sooner, so I can continue on the path towards my goal and keep my momentum going. I have started on meds and am having trouble unwinding and slowing my brain down at the end of the day. I wanted to know what your tips are for some of that. How do Time-Timers work? Bonus: Panelists also share some of the other time-tracking tools they use! I’m looking for tips on how to help my partner understand what ADHD is and what it isn’t. My partner is neurotypical. My partner seems to not believe ADHD is a real thing, or that it’s a crutch to misplace things. How can I get him to understand? I was just diagnosed about two months ago. I’m navigating this new identity and trying to find my community. I’m trying to figure out how to navigate who to tell and how to know who to tell. I’ve had some conversations go surprisingly well and others not go so well. How do you handle being true to yourself while also protecting yourself? Are there any personal assistants that understand ADHD and could help keep me accountable? In this episode, I share a recent personal experience on how multitasking caused me a major personal/professional embracement. It was a great reminder for me to be so mindful of my tasks throughout the day, and ensure I am only doing one task at a time from beginning to the end so that I avoid making errors that not only will cause a personal disappointment but also high jack my brain into a state of stress and anxiety.
Earlier this year I sat down with Michael Liss to hear his inspiring story of late in life diagnosis of ADHD at 50. There is so much compassion and raw honestly in his story. I encourage you to listen to the entire episode as I am sure many of you will relate to what he shares and will be inspired by how he has moved beyond his ADHD diagnosis.
